Our meeting with talk by film-maker Harry Fear on Monday 3 September at Cardiff University Graduate Centre went very well. Here's the YouTube video
Why this is important.
The Israeli government approved the Prawer Plan in September 2011. If implemented, it will result in the forced displacement of up to 70,000 Arab Bedouin citizens of Israel and the destruction of 35 “unrecognized” villages in the Naqab (Negev) desert. This plan was proposed and adopted without consultation of the local community, and is a gross violation of the Arab Bedouin citizens’ constitutional and human rights to property, dignity, equality, adequate housing, and freedom to choose their own residence.
Arab Bedouin citizens of Israel have inhabited the Naqab since the seventh century and today constitute the most vulnerable community in Israel. The State of Israel considers 35 of their villages “illegal” and the inhabitants “trespassers on State land.” These villages lack all basic services like water, electricity, sewage, education, healthcare, and roads; the state fails to provide this infrastructure in order to “encourage” the Arab Bedouin citizens to abandon their historic villages.
The Prawer Plan is happening now, despite its complete rejection by the Arab Bedouin, and strong disapproval from the international community. More than 1,000 houses were demolished in 2011 alone. Further, the media reports that on 1 August 2012, a special police force will begin to officially implement Prawer and demolish more homes, so the State can plant forests, build military facilities, and establish new Jewish settlements in their place.
Join Adalah in promoting and protecting the rights of the Arab Bedouin citizens of Israel in the face of continued injustice of the government policy of displacement and dispossession. Call on the Israeli government and Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu to Stop the Prawer Plan!
Thanks very much to everyone who came to help out yesterday: Linda, Mick, John, Shamsa, Janine, Fambaye, Khady and Yasmin.
Well done! Here's to many more actions for Palestine.
In an extract from The Case For Sanctions Against Israel, Ilan Pappé, celebrated Israeli historian and author, argues that the BDS movement is the best means to end Israel's oppressive occupation and prevent another Nakba.
But was Cameron at home or did he care? 300 people and sunshine and hope for the future but ethnic cleansing continues unabashed
